Frequently Asked Questions

A 2D ultrasound is the standard black and white image. A 2D ultrasound is most commonly used in physician offices to diagnose the health of the baby. As the name implies, all 2D images are flat and have no depth.
A 3D ultrasound creates the appearance of a three-dimensional image of the baby. This allows the expecting parents to see their baby’s face with features, rather than just the outline of the face.
A 4D ultrasound is 3D but in motion. A 4D allows expecting parents to see their baby moving, smiling, sucking on their fingers and possibly yawning all in real time.

A diagnostic ultrasound is an exam that has a medical indication from your Dr’s office to check the well-being of the baby. These exams are read by a Radiologist and a report is generated and sent to your referring provider.
An elective ultrasound does not require an order from a healthcare provider. Elective ultrasounds are for entertainment purposes only. This type of ultrasound allows expectant parents and families to bond with the baby and see their precious little one in 3D/4D before their arrival.

A 3D /4D ultrasound uses the same frequency of soundwaves as used in a normal 2D ultrasound done in your physician's office. There are no known risks and we strictly adhere to the AIUM guidelines.

The best time for a 3D/4D is between 28 - 32 weeks when the baby is more developed and has a detailed face. The choice is completely up to you as many expectant parents enjoy having (2) 3D/4D sessions, one early on in the pregnancy between 14-26 weeks and then again at 27-34 weeks.
Please note that after 34 weeks gestation, imaging for 3D/4D becomes a lot harder as the baby is running out of room and space for adequate images.

Drink plenty of water (a gallon a day) a week or two in advance before your appointment time to ensure adequate amniotic fluid levels (more fluids help us obtain better 3D/4D images)

It all depends on the ultrasound package that you select, sessions can last anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour.
